Refried Beans (Frijoles Refritos)
Ingredients
- 12 cup Pinto beans(400g)
- 20.5 Onion(60g)
- 32 clove Garlic(6g)
- 42 tablespoon Vegetable oil(28g)
- 51 teaspoon Salt(6g)
- 64 cup Water(960g)
Instructions
- 1Rinse the pinto beans and soak them in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 2Drain and rinse the beans. Place them in a pot with fresh water, onion, and garlic.
- 3Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until beans are tender, about 1.5 to 2 hours.
- 4Drain the beans, reserving some of the cooking liquid.
- 5Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- 6Add the cooked beans and mash them with a potato masher or spoon.
- 7Add reserved cooking liquid as needed to reach desired consistency.
- 8Season with salt and cook, stirring, until the beans are thick and creamy.
