Cuban Guava and Cheese Pastries (Pastelitos Cubanos de Guayaba y Queso)
Ingredients
- 11 sheet puff pastry sheet(250g)
- 2175 g guava paste(175g)
- 3125 g cream cheese(125g)
- 41 egg(50g)
- 50.25 cup water(60g)
- 60.25 cup sugar(50g)
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven according to the puff pastry package instructions.
- 2Cut the puff pastry sheet into 6 equal rectangles.
- 3Place pieces of guava paste and cream cheese in the center of half of the rectangles.
- 4Brush the edges of the rectangles with beaten egg.
- 5Place the remaining rectangles on top to cover the filling and press the edges to seal.
- 6Brush the tops with more beaten egg and make 3 small slits on each pastry.
- 7Bake according to the puff pastry package instructions, until golden brown.
- 8While baking, make the syrup by heating water and sugar in a saucepan for 1–2 minutes until dissolved.
- 9Remove the pastries from the oven and brush the tops with the syrup while still warm.
- 10Let cool slightly before serving.
