Lavina's Amish Dinner Rolls
Ingredients
- 12 cup lukewarm water(480g)
- 22 tablespoon yeast(18g)
- 31 tablespoon salt(18g)
- 42 tablespoon lard, softened(28g)
- 53 tablespoon honey (or sugar)(63g)
- 65 cup all-purpose flour(625g)
- 72 tablespoon butter(28g)
- 80.5 teaspoon salt (for sprinkling)(3g)
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, combine lukewarm water, yeast, salt, softened lard, and honey (or sugar). Mix well.
- 2Add 3 cups of flour and beat hard until the dough is rather elastic.
- 3Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of flour, kneading with your hands or a machine until the dough is firm and elastic.
- 4Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place (75-85°F) for 30 minutes.
- 5Knead the dough lightly, then return to the bowl and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- 6Shape the dough into dinner rolls of your preferred size and place them on a baking sheet.
- 7Let the rolls rise until almost doubled in size.
- 8Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with salt.
- 9Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 10Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
