Ingredients

  • 11 lb pork shoulder(454g)
  • 23 tablespoon soy sauce(45g)
  • 32 tablespoon hoisin sauce(34g)
  • 42 tablespoon honey(42g)
  • 51 tablespoon sugar(12g)
  • 61 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder(2g)
  • 72 clove garlic(6g)
  • 80.25 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)(1g)

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, sugar, Chinese five spice powder, minced garlic, and red food coloring if using.
  2. 2Cut pork shoulder into long strips about 2 inches wide.
  3. 3Place pork in a resealable bag or container and pour marinade over the pork. Marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  4. 4Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top.
  5. 5Remove pork from marinade and place on the rack. Reserve leftover marinade.
  6. 6Roast pork for 15 minutes. Brush with reserved marinade, flip, and brush the other side.
  7. 7Continue roasting for another 15-20 minutes, basting once more, until pork is cooked through and slightly charred.
  8. 8Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
